Water atomized powders providing specialty stainless steel powders and tool steel powders used in exhaust flanges and valve seats

Automotive

Our specialty metal powders and high purity nickel strip products are engineered for a variety of critical automotive applications. We work closely with automotive component suppliers worldwide to develop custom metal materials that enhance product performance.

Products
  • Metal Additives for Plastics +

We engineer alloyed stainless-steel powders in fine and coarse mesh sizes that offer numerous advantages for plastic parts and polymer compounders.

In the automotive sector, metal additives are used to impart improved wear and hardness to polymers as well as magnetic properties to allow for convenient handling and conveyance by magnets.

    Alloys
    316L, 304L, 434L, 430L, and 410L alloys.

    Sizes
Fine (30 micron) and coarse (100 micron).

    Applications
Wear resistant plastic parts, magnetic plastic parts.

  • Powder Metallurgy (P/M) +

Our specialty powders are pressed and sintered around the world to achieve near net shapes for critical automotive applications. Benefits include high customization such as size, alloy and properties, and lot size.

    Alloys
    303L, 316L, 304L, 409L/CB, 410L, 430L, 434L/CB, Tribaloy®.

    Applications
Muffler flange, exhaust system components, mirror mounts, valve seats and guides, fittings, drivetrain components, sensor rings, and seals.

  • Stainless Steel Flake +

Our high-quality stainless-steel flake products are used for protective coatings and paint additives in food, pharma, industrial, and automotive applications. Produced from our own 316L stainless steel powder, the flake offers numerous benefits including:

    • Corrosion resistance
    • Abrasion resistance
    • High specular reflectance

    Alloys
Produced utilizing type 316L stainless steel powder from our advanced water atomization process.

    Applications
Automotive trim, wheels, and under the hood parts (particularly motorsports), food and drug handling, wear resistant paints, metallic look paints.

  • Metal Injection Molding (MIM) +

Our metallurgists have developed a proprietary method of producing and processing fine metal powders down to 10 microns. Our powder is used to manufacture near net shape small precision parts and complex shaped components for the automotive industry.

    Alloys
    17-4PH, 70/30 FeCr, Stainless Steels.

    Sizes
    Typically smaller than 20 microns.

    Applications
Exhaust system components, medical equipment, automotive components, firearms.

  • Nickel Strip for EV Batteries +

Our 99.98% purity nickel strip is the premier material for battery tab connectors in Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) and delivers 15-20% higher conductivity than traditional cast nickel strip.

This improved conductivity performance in batteries results in a higher transmission of power, enabling the battery tab connector footprint to be reduced and overall weight decreased.

    Alloys
    Ni 200, Ni 201, Ni 270, 899L and 899A.

    Sizes
Down to 50 microns in thickness.

    Applications
    Battery tab connectors

  • Flex Heater Materials +

Hamilton Precision Metals produces resistance foils used to generate heat to initiate air bag inflation. These alloys are generally hard to find in the quantities and sizes necessary for accurate and repeatable processing. The short lead-times mitigate supply chain disruptions.

These products are available in a wide range of alloys and thicknesses.

    Alloys
    Nickel-Chrome 80/20, Evanohm® R, Nickel-Iron 65%, and many more.

    Sizes
Down to 3.8 microns in thickness.

    Applications
    Heating Elements.

  • Reed Switch Materials +

AMETEK Specialty Metal Products produces high purity Nickel Iron alloy systems for the highest reliability reed switches. These products are widely used in the automotive market for BMS (Battery Management Systems), improved safety in proximity sensors, and cable harness testing.

These materials are produced in Nickel-Iron compositions with market leading low levels of trace elements.

    Alloys
    Nickel-Iron compositions from 36% to 65% Nickel.

    Sizes
Strip thicknesses down to .002” and wire diameters as small as .005”.

    Applications
    Reed Switch Materials.

  • Electronic Connector Materials +

AMETEK produces Spinodal strip and wire products that are conductive, easily formable, and heat treatable to high strength. These materials contain no beryllium and outperform beryllium copper materials with higher retained strength and lower deformation of parts during hardening.

    Alloys
    Pfinodal® and AM-388™.

    Sizes
Strip thicknesses down to .002” and wire diameters as small as .005”.

    Applications
    Electronic Connectors.
