Titanium powders and medical tubes at OMTEC 2019

Tuesday, June 11, 2019

AMETEK Specialty Metal Products (SMP) businesses, Fine Tubes and Reading Alloys will be exhibiting at the 15th annual Orthopedic Manufacturing and Technology Exhibition and Conference (OMTEC) in Chicago.

OMTEC is aimed at key players in the orthopedic industry and seeks to educate, connect and empower people who design, develop and build orthopedic products.

“We are keen to raise awareness at OMTEC 2019 of our medical-grade titanium powders and precision tubes for orthopedic implant applications”, explains Andy Blankemeier, Regional Sales Manager.

“Demand for our metal tubing and high-performance titanium coating powders used for orthopedic implants encompasses a wide range of patients, including aging population, sports professionals and those of us who lead active lives and might experience an injury requiring orthopedic surgery. Our high-performance titanium powders are known for increased wear-life, improved productivity and excellent biocompatibility to promote osseointegration in total joint replacements.”

Fine Tubes, based in Plymouth, UK, manufactures precision tubes in specialty alloys including stainless steel (316L, 17-4), titanium (CP, 1, 2, 5, 9, 23) and MP35N. Fine Tubes’ high-performance tubes are designed to meet the unique requirements of customers in the medical industry. They are used in trauma and orthopedic implants (screws and nails), instruments and spinal cages due to the high levels of microbiological corrosion resistance, the small diameters produced and the products’ durable fatigue life.

Reading Alloys manufactures high purity titanium powders for medical implants due to their biocompatibility and ability to promote osseointegration. Alloys include CP Ti, magnesium and sodium reduced Ti sponge and Ti 6Al-4V.

From their Pennsylvania headquarters in the USA, the Reading Alloys team manufacture titanium powder for thermal spray applications and coatings for orthopedic implants, including artificial knees, hips, elbows and shoulders. The powders are lightweight, strong and corrosion-resistant and can be supplied in a range of desirable particle sizes to meet precise medical specifications.
