AMETEK SMP exhibits at Sea-Air-Space Exposition on Booth #2251

AMETEK Specialty Metal Products (SMP) will be exhibiting at the Navy League’s Sea-Air-Space Exposition, which is being held at the Gaylord National Convention Center in Maryland from 6 to 8 May. You can find the AMETEK SMP team at booth no. 2251 during the three-day event.

Sea-Air-Space Exposition is the largest maritime exposition in the U.S. and acts as an extension of the U.S. Navy League’s mission of maritime policy education and sea service support. Sea-Air-Space was founded in 1965 and brings together the U.S. Defense industrial base, private-sector U.S. companies and key military decision-makers.

Kevin Heaphy, Director Defense and Nuclear Products, said of the exposition, “Attending Sea-Air-Space Exposition is of vital importance to all the business units that are part of AMETEK SMP. We have a long history of working in the global Defense and military sectors and in supporting the U.S. Navy with our metallurgical products for critical applications. We are proud to be showcasing our products and services at this very important event.”

AMETEK SMP is a global leader in the manufacture of small diameter precision tubes, high alloy powders, thermal powders, heatsinks, ultra-thin foils and clad plate for critical Defense applications, including aerospace engines and air frames, mission critical coatings, battery components and armor plate.

The six specialist metallurgical businesses part of AMETEK SMP are AMETEK SMP Eighty Four, AMETEK SMP Wallingford, Superior Tube, Fine Tubes, Reading Alloys and Hamilton Precision Metals.

AMETEK SMP products have been carefully engineered to perform without failure in the most critical Defense applications across sea, air and space. The businesses are all proficient in meeting the multiple metal powder, tube and strip needs of the military and Defense sectors, as follows:

Superior Tube is a leading supplier of small diameter tubes used in nuclear submarines and Navy-designed heat exchangers. Together with its SMP sister company Fine Tubes based in the United Kingdom, both businesses supply the hydraulic and aero engine tubing deployed in the engines and airframes of military aircraft, including high-performance Waspaloy™ tubing for the afterburners of the F-15/F-16 Eagle fighter.

AMETEK SMP Eighty Four specializes in the production of high alloy powders, used for mission critical coatings on naval vessels amongst other applications. The company also enjoys a strong reputation for manufacturing thermal powders, a key component of critical battery applications used in Defense and military operations.

Reading Alloys is well-known for its production of master alloys, or aerospace grade titanium alloys and superalloys that are specifically designed for use in the airframes and engines of fighter jets. The non-ferrous metal is the ideal material for such applications, as it gives aerospace alloys the strength and ability to perform at extreme temperatures. The ratios of engine power to weight, airframe strength and other factors critical to jet performance could not be achieved without it.

AMETEK SMP Wallingford produces high-quality moly copper heatsinks for high-power semiconductors, along with shaped wire for helicoil and push-pull controls fasteners that are used to deliver remote activation of aerospace controls. Such applications are in use across the aerospace and marine industries and employed as controls for throttle, fuel shutoffs, landing gear and emergency controls.

Finally, Hamilton Precision Metals manufactures highly specialized metal foils for use in diaphragms for aerospace sensor applications. The company’s nickel-based strip alloys are also used in specialized aerospace batteries, heat exchangers and bellows, while its brazing foils, produced to 1.5 micron are a key component of jet engine fan blades and housings.
