EIGHTY FOUR, PA, -- AMETEK Specialty Metal Products has begun production of Stainless Steel Flake (SSF) for use as a high-performance additive in protective paints and a brightening pigment in decorative coatings. AMETEK’s SSF is produced from Type 316L premium quality stainless steel that combines excellent corrosion resistance with outstanding abrasion resistance.
“Type 316L stainless steel is highly resistant to salt spray and acid spotting and is unaffected by strong alkaline cleaners and detergents. It also will not chalk or tarnish,” notes Dick Mason, Vice President of Sales for AMETEK Specialty Metal Products. “Those characteristics of 316L stainless steel, along with its high specular resistance, make AMETEK SSF the perfect additive for a wide range of coatings, including powder, architectural, maintenance and cookware coatings.”
AMETEK SSF is available in Fine Grade (25 microns) and Standard Grade (50 to 60 microns). AMETEK also produces a special Maintenance Grade, SSF in a 10% mineral spirits paste. Independent laboratory tests have proven that stainless steel is stable in powder coatings.
