Sintered Physical and Mechanical Properties

Sintered properties were determined by:

Blending the powders with 1% lithium stearate and compacting to pre-selected pressures; and

Delubricating the specimens in air for 15 minutes at 950°F, sinterin them in dissociated ammonia for 30 minutes at 2150°F and cooling them in a waterjacketed furnance cooling zone.

We fabricated at least three specimens for each alloy/compaction pressure combination.

The dimensional change on sintering and sintered density of 316L and 316L Plus are compared in the graph below.

Due to the copper-based additive, 316L Plus exhibits expansion upon sintering. Mechanical properties are shown at below.

As a result of the copper additive, and due to reduced density, there is some decrement in mechanical properties of 316L Plus compared to those of 316L.
